RogueKiller can be used on Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, Server 2008, Win7, Win8, Win8.1, Win10.
RogueKiller can be used on both 32 bits and 64 bits operating systems.
- Download RogueKiller on the desktop, and quit all unnecessary running programs.
- If you downloaded the installable version, run the installer. This will place a shortcut on your desktop.
- Start RogueKiller, and follow the procedure below
On modern operating systems (Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10), the SmartScreen filter disallows the start of unknown programs (from Microsoft). To pass through this protection and be able to start RogueKiller, please do the following:
- Click on More infos
- Next click on Run anyway.
Start a new Scan by clicking on the “Start Scan” button from the dashboard.
(Premium users only) You can then choose to disable scan modules:
Then click on “Start Scan” to launch a new scan instance:
Wait for it to end (it usually takes from 10 to 30 mns), and verify the driver has been correctly loaded (Green):
After the scan has terminated, RogueKiller will display a results screen with possible found items.
The elements are classified by type of dangerousness, and given a different color:
- Red highlight – Malicious
- Orange highlight – Possibly malicious or potentially unwanted (PUP)
- Grey highlight – Potentially unwanted modification (PUM)
Verify the detected elements and check or uncheck them for removal.
After you have chosen the items to remove, click on “Remove Selected” button.
The removal starts, wait for it to end. It can take up to 5 mns, depending on how many items are detected and their nature.
After the removal is done, a removal results screen appears. Verify the items selected for removal have been removed without any error.
RogueKiller may request a reboot to complete the removal, please accept it to ensure the items are completely removed. Then click on “Finish” to complete.
Should you need a report, you can either open it at any moment with the “Open Report” button: After the scan, or after the removal.
If you missed it, you can retrieve your old scan and removal reports into the “History” tab, under “Scan Reports”
If you have quarantined an element by error, you can restore it from the “History” tab, under “Quarantine” menu:
